Magic Piano - Sound Scenography - 2024

Museum for Music Automatons, Seewen | Switzerland

The golden era of piano playing and its self-playing wonders re-experienced: the radio play written by Claudia Glass deals with the history and era of the magical, self-playing pianos from the early 20th century onwards in a very emotional way. At ten listening stations, visitors can use headphones to immerse themselves in an acoustic world told from the perspective of a fictional contemporary witness. Speech, music and sound design are used to present a story that conveys a wealth of information on the topic and at the same time invites visitors to daydream.

At another station with open surround sound, reproductions of historical recordings on paper rolls can be heard on an emulation of four different systems of self-playing pianos.

Idee und Klang Audio Design was responsible for the sound design and music of the radio play, as well as the technical planning and mixing of the piano emulations.
