Special exhibition 'Jeu Continu' - 2021

Museum of Music Automatons Seewen

The special exhibition staged by Claudia Glass revolves around a collection of fascinating music boxes from the "Belle Époque". Companies along the Swiss Jura arc developed and produced the high-quality precision instruments to order or for exhibitions.

For two pavilions, Idee & Klang has designed quadraphonic soundscapes showing the contrast of the rural production sites to the big stage of the world exhibitions of the time, where those music boxes were first presented.

To experience the sound of the music boxes as faithfully as possible, we made binaural sound recordings of a selection of restored music boxes from the exhibition's collection. These recordings can be heard at headphone stations near the display cases of the corresponding music boxes. Below is a small selection of these musical gems. We recommend listening to them with good headphones.
